About Me
Hello! I’m Kathy Pendergrass, owner and instructor here at Kathy’s Piano Studio. Let me tell you a little bit about myself. My parents were musicians themselves and raised me in a home filled with music. At a very young age, I became fascinated with the piano in our living room, and after listening to my many joyful attempts to figure out how to play it, they looked at each other and said, wearily, I imagine, “We need to get her some piano lessons!” Thus began a lifelong love affair with music, singing and piano studies as well as sharing that love of music with others. I’ve played for recitals, competitions, church services, weddings, funerals, accompanied school choirs, soloists and ensembles at music festivals and concerts, and participated in various community musical events. Over time, I developed a deep and abiding love of accompanying other musicians. I eventually felt drawn to start teaching private piano lessons and have been teaching for 20 years. I love sitting at the piano with my students, learning and having fun together, and witnessing their growth as musicians in their own right. I have great respect for parents or other family members who seek out good instruction, who faithfully pay for lessons, make sure their students attend lessons regularly, set up their students for success at home, and gently encourage their students to practice throughout the week.
About The Studio
And now, some information about the studio! I offer lessons for students ages 4 and up, including adults. I teach from a high-quality curriculum and have been really pleased with its results! I try to follow the public school calendar in regards to studio scheduling, and I offer Summer Lessons as well, on a first-come, first-served basis. Recitals are held in May and December.
What The Students Need,
A sense of curiosity and a love of learning new things!
Piano!
Most importantly, students will need in-home access to a full keyboard acoustic or digital piano [88 keys] with a pedal. Practice times will be relatively short for beginners. Real progress results from consistent practice 6 days per week.
Books!
I provide links for students to order their curriculum books through Pepper.com and Amazon. I am not affiliated with them, and of course, students can find books on other websites. I will provide links for recital music on a student-by-student basis. Books need to be new, as students do a lot of writing in them as an integral part of their learning process. *Students will also need a notebook for writing weekly assignments and practice notes.
The studio is located at 112 Centerville Rd, Gilbert, SC 29054. Immediately inside the front entrance is a waiting room shared with Juli’s School of Dance. You are always welcome to sit in on your student’s lesson. Seating inside the studio is limited, so if a family group is waiting during the lesson, you may be more comfortable in the shared waiting room.
